Senior Credit Controller / Team Supervisor
Central Bristol Permanent
Senior Credit Controller / Team Supervisor | Central Bristol | Hybrid (2 days in Office)

We’re working with a respected law firm in Bristol who are looking to recruit a Senior Credit Controller / Team Supervisor to join their Finance team in a newly created position.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Credit Controller who enjoys remaining hands-on with their own ledger whilst also taking on more responsibility for supporting, coaching and guiding a successful credit control team.

Working closely with the Head of Corporate Finance, you’ll play an important role in the day-to-day running of the credit function, helping to drive cash collection, manage aged debt and build strong relationships across the business. This is a supervisory position rather than a traditional management role, making it ideal for someone who enjoys sharing their knowledge, supporting colleagues and helping a team perform at its best without necessarily taking on full line management responsibilities.

The role:
  • Managing and recovering a portfolio of high-value, complex and aged debt, proactively chasing outstanding invoices and negotiating payment arrangements.
  • Working closely with the Head of Corporate Finance to support the smooth running of the credit control function.
  • Providing day-to-day coaching, guidance and support to the credit control team, helping colleagues achieve collection targets and develop their skills.
  • Remaining hands-on with credit control duties whilst taking responsibility for monitoring team performance and supporting effective collection activity.
  • Building strong working relationships with senior stakeholders and colleagues across the business to resolve billing and payment queries.
  • Investigating invoice discrepancies and working collaboratively with clients and internal teams to remove barriers to payment.
  • Monitoring aged debt, high-risk accounts and potential bad debt exposure, providing updates on collection activity and performance.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve processes, reduce debtor days and strengthen overall cash collection performance.
  • Maintaining accurate debtor records and ensuring all collection activity is appropriately documented.

About you:
  • Previous experience in credit control, within a legal environment.
  • Experience managing complex debtor portfolios, including high-value accounts and aged debt.
  • Someone who enjoys being hands-on with their own workload whilst also supporting, coaching and guiding others.
  • Previous supervisory experience would be beneficial, but this could also suit someone ready to take the next step into a more senior position without moving away from the day-to-day credit control side.
  • Confident communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • A proactive, organised and results-driven approach, with the confidence to manage challenging conversations and find solutions.
  • Strong IT skills and experience using finance systems. Knowledge of legal billing processes would be advantageous.

If you're an experienced Credit Controller looking to take the next step into a supervisory role, without losing the hands-on element of the job or moving straight into full people management, this could be a great next move.
